High Sheriffs Awards
The current High Sheriff of South Glamorgan is Heather Stevens of Porthkerry, Barry. Heather is Founder and Chair of the Waterloo Foundation, one of Walesí leading private foundations.
Heather read Psychology at Wadham College, Oxford and came to Cardiff to help set up Admiral Insurance. In 2007, Heather and her husband David founded
Foundation, an independent charitable trust which Heather now chairs. The Foundationís funding interests include Child Development, World Development, Environment and Projects in Wales.
Heather directs the Foundationís Child Development programme, having returned to her interest in psychological issues, particularly brain development and how its functioning and growth is affected by genetic and environmental factors such as diet and sleep. Under this programme, the Foundation focuses on research into dyslexia, DCD, ADHD, Rolandic Epilepsy and developmental trauma.
Heather is also involved with forest conservation and marine work. In 2009, Heather set up the Size of Wales project, aiming to help protect an area of rainforest the size of Wales. On the marine front, she is a Board Member of Oceana, an international non-profit organization which focuses on water/beach quality, fisheries, fish habitat, and marine sanctuaries. Heather is also a trustee of the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Heather is a member of the Barry Regeneration Advisory Board, and the recently established Ocean Watersports Trust in Barry.
Heather and David were awarded CBEs in June 2010 for charitable services, and Heather was recently made an Honorary Distinguished Professor by Cardiff University. Together they have three children, and the family continues to live in South Wales.
